  • Marine engineer student! Crankcase explosion proceedures

Hi, when there is an indication of a crankcase explosion (oil n the deck or oil mist/bearing temp alarm) is your first action to call the bridge/chief engineer, remove anyone from the engine room and transfer ships power from the shaft alternator and then reduce load on the engine or reduce load first and then call the bridge/chief engineer?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

As per the procedure, which is generally explained in the main engine manual, the first step on receiving the oil mist alarm is to remove all the engine personnel from the engine room and then inform to the bridge (Crank Case oil mist alarm will automatically slow down the engine).

    Hope this helps!
