In tandem type air compressor how 2nd stage piston getting lubricated?

  • #2
@Karthi: Normally a pump forces the lubricating oil via oil passage provided in the connecting rod and piston which lubricates the piston. Splash lubrication also takes place hence its a combination of splash and forced lubrication

In the tandem type piston (or stepped piston) the second stage cannot be lubricated by splash lubrication or through the conrod because the first stage part of the piston is in the way. The second stage is lubricated through small holes drilled through the cylinder block. The oil is delivered in small amounts by a lubricator through a small bore tube and then through the drillings into the second stage cylinder.
