    i am having trouble getting a simplified source of the following question.Please help

      From what I know, there are 4 common ship hull and structure failures which are (1) Fatigue crack, (2) Buckling, (3) Indent and (4) Corrosion. Hope this helps!

        Oxidization corrosion, (rust) from poor maintenance on structures.
        Stress cracking of welds.
        Caustic cracking caused by liquids.
        Pitting cause by oxygen.
        Galvanic corrosion is caused by dissimilar metals in contact with each other in an electrolyte. (Sacrificial anodes are used, usually magnesium for fresh and zinc for sea water)
        Electrolyses is leakage of stray electrical currents between metals causing pitting.
        Other than that most failures are due to hitting things, like bridges and breakwater. lol
