  • Adjustable sextant errors(Index error using Sun Method)

I'm slightly confused because I've seen you guys got one way how to find index error using the Sun Method and I'm seeing another way on the internet, I just want to ensure that both methods are correct

    Marine insight:
    Sun method
    1) Set index arm at 32' on the Arc
2)Hold sextant vertically and view sun using appropriate shades, the reflected imaged should appear below the true image
    3) Turn micrometer screw until both images are just touching one another, and Note reading on the arc
    4) Repeat this process for off the arc
    5) Subtract both values and half the difference and name error according to larger value

    Other source:
Set the inbex bar at zero, hold the sextant vertically and using appropriate shades, view the sun. Rotate the micrometer screw until the true and reflected images are just touching and note the reading "on" the arc. Reverse the images and note the reading "off" the arc. Halve the difference between the readings and name the correction "on" or "off" the arc according to the largest reading
